generative design with analogue techniques

The idea:
creating a generative design with analogue techniques

The outcome
of generative design will be directly influenced by a human interaction instead of computer algorithm.

The process:
Creation of a base line (structure) like a grid as an example. The actor (human as an executive medium) has to follow the rule set, which will be predefined. Several actors are part of the process. The results of the actors are analogue algorithms. They will be digitally illustrated and visually evaluated.

The result:
If the result does not fit your the expectations you have to modify the baseline and/or rule set and have to iterate the process steps again.

Experiment Nr. 1

Analogue task:
1.) Draw a right-angled triangle.
2.) Draw a straight line that goes through the triangle.
3.) Draw a square.
4.) Draw a rectangle that goes through the drawing area. Whether it touches other objects or goes through them is up to you.

Digital output:

I created posters for an event which is called „intuition generative gestalten“. The elements position are the same as in the analogue output. Completion of the poster by adding headline, date and the location information. To get an additional flexible component beside the background, I put the location always near the longer side of the rectangle. Different generative posters with another dynamic component are created.

Experiment Nr. 2

Trace 10 interrelated lines.

Digital output:

Digitalizing of the analogue output creates different patterns. Every pattern has their own personality and a great design based on the same base line.
